The Trends Have Died, Viva Style

Take-all: minimalism, maximalism, Baroque style. Colours pastel, acid colours, colour fluo, bright colors, dusty… Black. White. Flowers, stripes, geometric prints, bananas are carried. Safari, animal (new) print, green hunting, aires Explorer. The pants can be chosen: skinny, wide fishing, capri, shorts, Bermuda shorts… Skirts: mini, maxi, supermaxi. Tableadas, with volume, narrow, super pipe. … Clothing that you want: mono or kimono, costume, dress, sayon, kaftan, tunic… Fabrics: silks, jeans, payetes, bag, linen and crochet… And all mixed. Ages to reinvent? All: 40, 50, 60 or 70, 80 or 90. Each time, a pattern, a look, a pattern… If you upload to the attic, all can have a new life. Although every season fashion professionals do trends collection, the trends have died. The style is what matters.

Just before if we say what is not. And it is that the effect of the superglobalizacion and the rise of the fashion industry have marked the end of trends. Recently Azzedine Alaia He said in women’s Wear Daily: “the current pace of fashion is inhuman: too much pressure and too many collections” (via Eugenia de la Torriente). The fashion industry behaves in a way exasperated, nervous, restless… Fashion moves to the sound of the groups of equity, of the major economic objectives. Stripped of romance (at least for the merchants who benefit from it) and razed to the ground, the industry manufactures everything “to see if it is correct”. And as you do so well, like, like, takes. ERGO, ‘take-all’.

On the street they are also passing things. And on the Internet. This giant uncontrolled moving parts while nobody is account. The bloggers, the new influencers, Street Style are. Reverses the pyramid of influences. Old upper class marked the desire of what all would lead. Now, the influence was born in the street. The Sartorialist (already converted in celebrity), Hanneli Mustaparta, Jack & Jill,… There are hundreds of blogs and all show us desirable images of original, different, people with personality. Anonymous style. We want to be like them. The style is a supreme body which overcomes the tendency. You wear what you wear, is it OK if you looks good.

Let’s not forget that we are a group of very special generation (and I say group because we are many generations doomed to “destendencia” fashion). We were born in the era of the image. We are prosecuting native. Our aesthetic is saturated with influences. We experienced in our aesthetic memories of past era looks because in any bygone era, from Love Story to woman’s weapons, there is a movie with an aesthetic that fascinates us. We are victims of the celluloid, advertising, television, Internet, of the infoxication. Is not the end of trends an infoxication itself? And is not the style personality hovering in the middle of the chaos?

There was a book in the early 90s: the end of history and the last man, Fukiyama, which was very controversial. In it he spoke of the end of ideologies, the end of bipartisanship. Capitalism and communism were no longer enemies. Then political calm did not make us think about what came next. The 11S triggered a huge change, the crisis that came after also… We’ve seen to revive the marked battle between left and right.

Perhaps, I doubt it, something similar happens in the fashion and give reverse. Perhaps unexpected things happen and we aborrezcamos so much mixture, that everything and anything, this madness and that disorientation and we want all place an order again. At least, I have already read in some twit lately: “everything is more of the same”.
