London Fashion Week FW 2016 Day 1

London Fashion Week FW 2016-2017 opens with a mix of nostalgic charm, romantic and futuristic, in the name of a tradition that experiments with new forms of expression and stylistic.

After the grand finale in the name of Marc Jacobs who ended the New York Fashion Week FW 2016-2017, the fashion baton passes to London.

The capital of the UK welcomed him with a day 1 in the name of a young creativity, always enthusiastic, sometimes naive, which has the names of some of the most promising new designers on the international scene.

The result? A mix of experimentation and nostalgia, which starts Victorian aesthetics to get to that of a distant planet of the future.

Nostalgia and emotions

The nostalgic collection par excellence of the first day of London Fashion Week FW 2016-2017 is presented by Steven Tai. The thirty-one Canadian designer is inspired by the famous 1976 film starring Jodie Foster Frikie Friday-where mother and daughter exchange bodies and role-to tell a mature and conscious woman of her femininity and yet young and fresh. Between classical and soft colors – blue, lilac, blue sugar paper – skirts marinara, bon ton cardigans, ruffles and pleats, all the heads have something “nonnesco”, but they are also current and fun.

The theme of “family” makes memories instead of common thread to the proposal for the next season of Sadie Williams, who found his inspiration by browsing old clothing catalogs on eBay and albums with pictures of his parents by young people in holidays snow. The result is a collection that mixes the style ski 80s with strongholds of the Scottish tradition as tartans and kilts . Some ingenuity weighs down the overall effect, but evidence of the London-based designer total is interesting and compelling especially for the use of Lurex and silver leather.

Going further back in time, the nostalgia meant as a tribute to the Victorian era is the leitmotif of the proposed AI 2016-2017 of J.JS Lee. The old furniture in which she came across fashion designer during the renovation of the house contributed to the aesthetics of the collection, where the historical matrix – so to speak – is evident in heavy fabrics and prints of yesteryear, however, it is mitigated by a modern design and allure mannish, symbol of empowerment and strength.

Last but not least, the romantic and nostalgic Inglese style of Alice Archer, who has chosen as the inspiration of the Kew Gardens of London archives, creating beautiful dresses, suits, skirts, pants and jackets in velvet and silk, embellished with embroidery heavenly flowers and animals, with a result that may seem mannered, but that really is vibrant and contemporary.

The future around the corner

In a day marked by nostalgia and strongly to the past, the proposed 2016-2017 autumn-winter of Charlotte Olympia is rather a hymn to the future.

The famous designer shoes makes its debut in the ready-to-wer with a collection total black styling”science fiction” women, albeit with clear references to the Lord of the ’30s and’ 50s. A first trial undoubtedly bellla, the sign of a great harmony, but not convincing as a bit ‘all expected. On clothes in fact Charlotte Olympia Dellal has not yet mastered it has on accessories, the real protagonists of the show.

Handbags and glittering shoes, platform, boots, ankle boots, court shoes, brogues and sandals literally steal the show from the clothes, demonstrating-and perhaps this is the will of the designer – how even the most minimal look, austere and rigorous can become incredibly glamorous and sexy with the accessory “right.”
